IMPORTANT NOTICE TO IMPORTERS

Updating of information on the Price Fixing Information System (PFIS)

 

Importers are requested to fill in the “EAN” Code (Bar Code) as displayed on products in retail outlets. Importers are also required to update the same information for the commodities for which the costing returns have already been approved.  

Importers should update same at the earliest possible.

COMMUNIQUE

The Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection wishes to inform the general public that the Government has decided to provide a subsidy to improve the purchasing power of consumers and ease the cost of living on the following five (5) essential commodities, effective as from 26 August 2025:

 

Commodities Subsidy (Rs) Unit of Measure Maximum pack size
Milk Powder 50 per kg 5 kg
Edible Oil (Soya bean oil and vegetable oil) 15 per litre 2.5 litres
Infant Milk powder 55 per 900 g 1 kg
Baby Diapers 25 per 50 diapers 200 diapers
Processed Cheese (excluding sliced cheese) 10 per 250 g 500 g

The Ministry urges all consumers to be vigilant and to report any instance of overcharging or abuse through the following contact points:

Traders are reminded that selling the above-mentioned essential goods at a price which is higher than the approved subsidised maximum retail price will be liable to a fix penalty amounting to Rs5000.

Refund of Subsidy

Importers are requested to contact the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) for any queries with regard to the modalities for claim of subsidy on 207 6000 during working hours.
