NOTICE TO IMPORTERS
Downtime of the Price Fixing Information System (PFIS)
The Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection wishes to inform all importers that the Price Fixing Information System will be temporarily unavailable on Wednesday 29 July as from 16.00 hours till 18.00 hours on Wednesday 29 July 2026 for maintenance and enhancement purposes.
Importers are therefore requested to undertake all necessary precautions in relation to the submission of costing returns and to refrain from accessing the system during that period.

COMMUNIQUE
Importers are reminded that in line with regulation 3 of the Consumer Protection (Consumer Goods) (Maximum Mark-Up) Regulations 1998, every importer of consumer goods shall, before selling or supplying the consumer goods, submit a return in the form specified in the Second Schedule in respect of the consumer goods.
As part of the submission, importers are required to specify the EAN code (Barcode) for the consumer goods and it should be same to EAN code (Barcode) being displayed on the goods in retail outlets.
However, it has been observed that the EAN code (Barcode) declared by importers are incorrect or inconsistent on the Price Fixing Information System. This is adversely affecting enforcement exercises conducted by officers of this Ministry, as well as the subsidy refund process administered by the MRA.
In line with Regulations 11, any person who furnishes any information or produces any document which he knows or ought to have known to be false or misleading in a material particular, shall commit an offence.
In this Context, importers are requested to ensure that the EAN code (Barcode) are correct and consistent and amend same by latest 31 July 2026.

NOTICE TO IMPORTERS
As announced in the budget 2026/2027, the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection wishes to inform the general public that the Government has decided to extend the subsidy scheme under the Price Stabilization (PSF) to protect and improve the purchasing power of consumers and ease the cost of living on the following seven (7) essential commodities as listed in the table below. This measure will take effect as from 01 July 2026.

Traders are reminded that selling the above-mentioned essential goods at a price which is higher than the approved subsidised maximum retail price will be liable to a fix penalty amounting to Rs 5000.
Refund of Subsidy
Importers are requested to contact the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) for any queries with regard to the modalities for claim of subsidy on 207 6000 during working hours.
